This full day tour comprehensively covers a multitude of the historically important sites on the Obersalzberg, including the more hidden locations that most people never hear about. While there are many tour options that include this area, most will only stop off at the most well known spots. On this tour your expert guide will also include the secrets hidden on the mountainside which really provide an authentic account of the fascinating history of this area.

This extensive tour is designed for those who want to learn more from their visit and spend a full day discovering the history of the area surrounding the Eagle’s Nest. Whilst the Eagle’s Nest is today very famous, it was only one of many historically significant buildings located within Hitler’s Southern Headquarters nestled in the Bavarian Alps. On this tour you will explore the real history of the area discovering what took place here during Hitler’s time in power, in addition to exploring the Eagle’s Nest.

​Walk in the footsteps of history with your own private expert guide as you explore the area that comprised a sprawling compound during the National Socialist regime, learning about why the mountainside was so decisive, while visiting the most historically significant locations paying particular attention to the most fascinating of all; the exact site where Hitler's home stood.
As you are driven in a private vehicle through the Obersalzberg, your experienced guide will explain the compelling background history of the mountainside, using a selection of period photographs to help you to visualise the once-extensive compound whilst you stand exactly where such momentous history was made.

Exploring Hitler's Eagle’s Nest Teahouse: Travelling together with your experienced guide, you will weave along the winding mountain road that leads up to the Eagle's Nest, which was made famous by the 2001 HBO adaptation Band of Brothers®. This exciting bus journey snaking along the steep, serpentine route is a captivating experience in itself. Discover the reasons behind how and why the National Socialist party had the impressive Eagle's Nest built at 6,017ft atop the peak of the Kehlstein mountain, and take a look around the striking structure.

You'll also delve into the subterranean secrets of the Obersalzberg with a visit to one of the original sections of the vast underground bunker complex buried deep below the former compound.
Tour Itinerary
If you are staying in the Berchtesgaden area, your experienced tour guide will pick you up from your accommodation to begin the tour. If not, the meeting point is the convenient and centrally located Berchtesgaden train and bus station.

Beginning with a driving tour of the Obersalzberg you'll visit the most significant locations within the former compound, the sites where the most important buildings once stood. Many of the top leaders of the regime had private homes here in Hitler’s Southern Headquarters: Hermann Göring, Martin Bormann, and Albert Speer spent a lot of time with Hitler on this mountainside. As you discover where these historic homes of Hitler’s inner circle were located, your expert guide will provide an insight into the daily life of the National Socialist leadership.

The highlight of the driving tour will be the most significant location of all: the exact site where Hitler's "Berghof" home once dominated the landscape. The second seat of government power during the Nazi regime; this spot was the setting for many incredibly important discussions impacting the outcome of WWII. You'll make a stop here, taking a walk off the beaten path to explore the lesser-known ruins of Hitler's Berghof home, including the opportunity to experience the panoramic views that were once on offer from his very house.

Also included in this tour will be the opportunity to visit an original section of the vast underground bunker complex buried deep below the former compound. Explore the meandering labyrinth of twisting tunnels and cavernous chambers; the unbelievable achievement of a workforce in its thousands under the instruction of the National Socialist leadership.

You'll top off the tour with a visit to the Eagle's Nest; beginning with the breathtaking journey up to the mountain peak - with no waiting around in long lines - our tours all include "skip the line". You'll travel together with your expert guide in one of the specially designed mountain buses driving up the private road to the Eagle's Nest.
Next, you’ll travel in the original brass elevator – this famous elevator carries you 406ft upwards through the centre of the mountain itself delivering you directly into the Eagle’s Nest building.
You will be shown around the historic structure paying particular attention to the many original features that still remain, including the huge marble fireplace, and learning the details of the impressive construction of Hitler's mountaintop masterpiece.

The tour will include ample opportunities to take photos, ask any questions you may have, and also some free time to explore the Eagle's Nest independently. Not forgetting that the Eagle's Nest is today also a restaurant you'll also have a chance to grab a quick bite to eat or enjoy a Bavarian beer. Fully flexible to meet your requirements, there would also be an opportunity for a lunch break during the tour. Having lived directly on the Obersalzberg for many years himself, your guide can recommend the best restaurant option for you - even including some historically interesting choices...

The tour will end where it began, either back at your hotel if in the Berchtesgaden area, or at the Berchtesgaden train and bus station. Alternatively, if you would like to be dropped off in Berchtesgaden old town to look around, or at one of the other popular tourist attractions in Berchtesgaden that would also be no problem. This is a fully private tour just for those in your travelling party, so the choice is yours.
