Overview

This tour is designed for those who wish to learn about the history of the Eagle’s Nest and explore the historic building with their own private expert guide. Discover the reasons behind how and why the National Socialist party had the impressive Eagle's Nest built 6,017ft atop the peak of the Kehlstein mountain.

Your expert guide will explain the compelling background history of the mountainside, which was home to an extensive National Socialist compound during the Third Reich. Though many of these historic buildings were destroyed after WWII, your guide will help you to visualise the once-extensive compound with a selection of period photographs.

Travelling together with your experienced guide, you will weave along the winding mountain road that leads to the Eagle's Nest, which was made famous by the 2001 HBO adaptation Band of Brothers®. This exciting bus journey snaking along the steep, serpentine route is a captivating experience in itself.

This private tour also guarantees your Eagle’s Nest tickets from the moment of booking. The Eagle’s Nest attracts thousands of visitors every day but there are only a limited number of tickets available per day. As such, the Eagle’s Nest tickets are often sold out resulting in many disappointed guests missing their chance to visit. Book with us to avoid this disappointment.

Tour Itinerary

You will meet your accredited historical guide at the Eagle's Nest bus departure point (Salzbergstrasse 45, 83471, Berchtesgaden, Germany). Your experienced guide will begin with an historical explanation of the Obersalzberg; an area that comprised a sprawling compound during the National Socialist regime, learning about why the mountainside was so decisive, and how and why it became so important to Hitler during the Third Reich.

After the introduction it’s time for the breathtaking journey up to the mountain peak - with no waiting around in long lines - our tours all include "skip the line". You'll travel together with your expert guide in one of the specially designed mountain buses driving up the private road to the Eagle's Nest. Next, you’ll travel in the original brass elevator – this famous elevator carries you 406ft upwards through the centre of the mountain itself delivering you directly into the Eagle’s Nest building. You will be shown around the historic structure paying particular attention to the many original features that still remain, including the huge marble fireplace, and learning the details of the impressive construction of Hitler's mountaintop masterpiece.

This private tour includes ample opportunities to take photos, ask any questions you may have, and also some free time to explore the Eagle's Nest independently. Not forgetting that the Eagle's Nest is today also a restaurant you'll also have a chance to grab a quick bite to eat or enjoy a Bavarian beer! Your guide will accompany you on the journey back down and the tour will end at the same location it began.
